EXCERPT FROM RECENT E-MAIL:

When we moved to Creel 12 years ago in August, we knew that the Lord had called us to serve Him among José Luis’ family — among the Tarahumara people. (José Luis comes from a very large family of at least 29 aunts and uncles and countless cousins.) We have served in different ways – through Bible studies, family visits, transporting the sick to hospitals, providing food, medicine, etc. when necessary, teaching children the Bible, living our faith out day-to-day. Nevertheless, we were recently reminded of the need to continue sharing Christ’s love with the Tarahumara people. We were notified that José Luis’ mother, Marcela, was very ill, so José Luis went to see what she needed. When he arrived at his mother’s home, she confessed that she was not ill; rather, it was her 25-yr-old daughter, Martha. Although not medically sick, Martha had been cursed by a witch and was suffering the effects of that curse. José Luis was able to encourage both women to put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ instead of being fearful of a witch. Both his mother and Martha have heard the gospel and have seen the tremendous change in José Luis as a result of following Christ. However, they have yet to make a decision for Jesus Christ. 

As a result of this reminder, we would like to ask you to partner with us by praying specifically for the following petitions. Please pray for Marcela and Martha this month; pray that they would experience the power and love of God in a more profound way. Please pray for the translation committee and their work of translating the Bible into the High Tarahumara dialect because, as Jesus said, the Tarahumara will only be free when they know the truth. Please pray as we seek God for where and when we should plan Bible studies and home visits. Thank you for being such an important partner in our ministry. We appreciate your prayer support and your financial gifts. May the Lord fill you with wisdom as you lift up our family, ministry, and the Tarahumara people. May He meet your needs as you give to provide for our needs.
